Farewell but not goodbye

Two years ago, I was honoured to be elected CHUFC President at the end of Season 2015. At the time the Club was deep in negotiation with Granville District Soccer Football Association and Football NSW regarding the creation of Sydney Hills Football Association. It’s fair to say the pressure was on to stay with Granville, and a lot of Clubs were wondering what Castle Hill United was going to do before committing their own path forward. Should we risk playing in an unknown and unsanctioned competition? Talk about being thrown in the deep end! History shows that we stood together as one and SHFA was created, a pivotal moment for Hills Football and a great success in hindsight.

Twelve months ago, similar discussions were had with Football NSW and even more clubs regarding the creation of a sanctioned Hills Football Association. I’m proud to have played an active role in these discussions, helping to shape the current Association together with our neighbouring clubs.

Our Club led in a different way this year with a visible and public Respect campaign as a sign of support for the Referees of the Association. The campaign was imitated directly by at least one other club, and referenced by several others. That the number of tribunal incidents decreased after this campaign may be a coincidence, however perhaps can be attributed to the direct messaging involved.

Less than a week ago Castle Hill United FC was awarded the 2017 and inaugural Hills Football Champion Club of the Year. In a year of so many highlights and great successes enjoyed by many of our teams, I was very proud to accept this award on behalf of the Club.

The time has now come for me to step aside and welcome a new President to lead this great Club into the next chapter of our history. I wish Marc Vujnovich and his 2018 Committee team the greatest of success, and offer my support and assistance should it be required. I’d like to thank all the previous Club committee teams that have helped coach me during my tenure over the past three years in both Competition Secretary and President roles. Much of what you do goes unnoticed and without thanks, however, know that your efforts are sincerely appreciated by many.

A special thank you to all the coaches, managers, parents and other volunteers who have committed their valuable time to our Club so that others may benefit. To all our sponsors, I thank you dearly for your continued valuable support. I do look forward to continuing in the service of Castle Hill United as a coach for many years to come. See you around Fred Cat!

Yours in football,

Eyman
